DRUG DEALER BOOK FOUR

“Anger can change back into happiness. Rage can change back into joy. But dead men do not return to the living.” —Sun Tzu

PART 15: CONSEQUENCES “What you working with, son?” Fox asked me as he walked into my cell.

“I got four hundreds left, dog,” I answered.

“Let me get that,” he said as I dug into my sock and pulled out the four fat packets of weed and handed them to him. “Is it the same shit?” he asked.

“You know it, dude. Straight-commercial-brick-shit.”

“Damn, son, you’d think that since these cats is going through all the trouble of smuggling weed into the prison that they’d at least get some chronic, you heard,” Fox said dejectedly, pouting like only a true stoner could.

“I know what you mean bro, I feel you,” I told him as we both nodded our heads understanding that we were a different breed of stoner. Connoisseurs.

“You want a send-out for these?” He asked. I said yes as he confirmed my girl’s address. “Alright, Guero, inside of two weeks. Word is bond.” And with that we hit rocks, sealing the deal. Fox split.

No sooner did Fox leave then Vince entered, telling me, “You will not fucking believe this.”

And at once I could tell it was something way fucked up.

It was almost lunchtime and I was just waking up, but I knew Vince had probably been in the yard all morning. Something had gone down and I was about to get the 411.

“The Puerto Rican cop was indicted, Guero,” Vince said. “This country dude told me his people read it in this morning’s paper. He came right out to rec and told me and Travieso.”

Damn, I thought, that was bad news. And I knew worse was coming.

“That shit is all over the pound, Guero,” Vince said. “And dudes are saying Dave told. Nobody will tell me directly or say who started that rumor but everybody is saying that.” Vince continued, “The country vato said he would check with his people about exactly what the article said when he calls his wife back later. Can you fucking believe that shit?”

Vince was exasperated. I could tell he was in some serious shock. I just hoped he kept his cool and didn’t flip out or anything. I was surprised too, but I figured something like that might happen. I just wasn’t sure when.

Vince continued talking, “Guero, can you believe that all these pinche putos who Dave looked out for and showed mad love to are now talking shit about him? I mean, they don’t even know for real. They are just talking shit. The no good pinche bueys,” Vince said with an air of disgust. “Damn,” he continued, “I can’t stand these backstabbing motherfuckers.”

“Fuck those culeros,” I said, trying to pacify Vince. “They don’t know what’s up. Dudes on this pound just like to jump on a man when he is down, you know. We’ll find out what is up and straighten it out, tu sabes.”

“Yeah, maybe,” he said, slightly mollified. “You got a joint or what, Guero?” he asked me.
